Summer Experience Programme in London for Ukrainian Students
Ukrainians in London initiate Summer Experience Programme for Ukrainian students
London (August 2014) – On 16th August, twelve students from regional universities in Ukraine will arrive to London, UK, for an 8-day educational experience programme. The programme is facilitated by UBCC Young City Club with support from the Ukrainian Institute in London and endorsement from the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine. It is run by young Ukrainian professionals living and working in the City of London.
The twelve finalists were selected from 140 applications submitted by Ukrainian undergraduate students from over twenty regional universities based on their academic excellence, active social and communal engagement, and leadership potential.
In London the students will have a chance to see the inner workings of the leading private and public companies, international organisations, and government institutions. They will attend various presentations and discussions with experts and senior management of these companies in order to acquire new skills and learn new concepts for their future development.
Irina Tymczyszyn, Director of Ukrainian-British City Club, is overseeing the project. “This is a fantastic opportunity for these talented students to gain exposure to and insight into professional environment, corporate ethics and social responsibility of western institutions, as well as economic, political and cultural life in the UK”, said Ms. Tymczyszyn. Iryna Tandura, one of the project organisers who will be accompanying students during their visits, added: “We are thrilled about the fact that all twelve of them obtained UK visas, considering that Ukraine is facing such a difficult geo-political situation at the moment and we have a number of participants coming directly from the Eastern parts of the country.”
During their stay in London the students will also work on project ideas that can be implemented upon their return to Ukraine with the aim to promote sustainable business development, social responsibility and international cooperation. Some of the ideas include starting a pro-bono legal service in Eastern Ukraine, organising financial literacy workshops for youth, and creating a community park in one of the towns.
“Ukraine has embarked on a new chapter in its history and these talented young people from the new generation of hard-working driven leaders will inspire changes in our political, economic, judicial and social systems”, commented Inna Sovsun, Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine. “It is therefore crucial that they […] are able to learn from the experience of one of the most developed countries in the world”.
